Cre8 Land and Planning was instructed by Promenade Estates as part of a team including Buttress and Stephen Levrant Heritage Architecture to prepare and submit a full planning application for a residential development of 35 dwellings on the site of the former Stretford Memorial Hospital.
The former Stretford Memorial Hospital site is located on the site of Basford House a former Victorian merchant’s house that was converted into a military hospital during the First World War in 1914 and later a maternity hospital with the facility closing in 2015.
The vision for the site places heritage at its heart with the retention and refurbishment of Basford House a non-designated heritage asset for 6 no. high-quality apartments alongside 29 no. 3, 4-and 5-bedroom contemporary designed homes within a high-quality landscape setting that includes the former garden to the front of Basford House.
The application follows approval of a Demolition Prior Notification application in March 2024 for the demolition of most of the former hospital buildings on site with the exception of Basford House a Non-Designated Heritage Asset that is retained for reuse as apartments.
The proposals have been developed through extensive consultation with Trafford Council and the local community to deliver a scheme that will bring back into use a vacant derelict site that saves the historic Basford House and its setting to deliver a mix of 35 high quality new homes to support the local housing needs of the area.
